Quatuor Danel, although being French, has been based since its formation in 1991 in Brussels, Belgium. They teach as a quartet at the University of Manchester, where they took over from the Lindsay Quartet. The Quatuor Danel is not only versed in the classical and romantic masters, but also works in close cooperation with the great composers of our own time such as Dusapin, Rihm, Volans, Lachenmann and Harvey. Their recording of all 15 Shostakovich quartets for the label Fuga Libera has been compared by the international press to legendary recordings of the Borodin Quartet and the Beethoven Quartet. Recently cellist Yovan Markovitch joined the quartet.
